EEG examination (wakefulness and sleep)
Diagnostic standard
at NEURODIAGNOSTYKA
The EEG (electroencephalography) examination is a modern and fundamental diagnostic procedure that allows for the precise assessment of the brain’s bioelectrical activity. By recording electrical im-pulses, we are able to verify whether the nervous system is functioning correctly. It is a completely non-invasive, painless, and safe method, which means it can be successfully performed on patients of all ages – from newborns and infants to adults and seniors.
In our NEURODIAGNOSTYKA clinic in Milanówek (at 3 Sportowa St.), examinations are conducted by a team of qualified EEG technicians who combine professionalism with empathy and high personal culture. We provide full care: from patient preparation and fitting a modern electrode cap to supervi-sing the entire recording process. Each study is then analyzed and described by experienced neurolo-gists and licensed clinical electroencephalographists. This guarantees the highest diagnostic stan-dard, and the patient receives the result with the description within 4 working days.
During the examination, the patient sits or lies down comfortably, and a special cap with electrodes is placed on their head to record the brain’s electrical activity. Wakefulness EEG is performed on adults as well as children who are able to lie still during the test.
Duration:
- Wakefulness study: approximately 20-30 minutes.
- Sleep study: the duration depends on how quickly the patient falls asleep. It is advisable to reserve at least one hour, often longer.
During the procedure, standard activation trials are performed:
- Hyperventilation (deep breathing)
- Photostimulation (light flashes)
- Opening and closing of eyes (applies only to the wakefulness study)
The choice of trials is always adapted to the degree of cooperation, the patient’s age, and the type of study.

How to prepare for an EEG examination?
Your guide
to preparation
- For Sleep EEG: Stay awake for an appropriate amount of time before the test so that the pa-tient falls asleep naturally during the examination.
- Clean Hair: Hair should be washed and dried before the test to ensure optimal electrode con-tact with the scalp and increase measurement accuracy. On the day of the test, avoid hair sty-ling products such as gels, sprays, or oils.
- General Health: A runny nose, cough, or low-grade fever excludes the possibility of perfor-ming the test. Previous antibiotic therapy is an indication to postpone the examination by 1 week.

- Avoid Caffeine: It is recommended to avoid caffeine-containing products (coffee, tea, cola, certain OTC medications) on the day of the test and the day before.
