Neonatal EEG examination
Diagnostic standard
at NEURODIAGNOSTYKA
Neonatal EEG (electroencephalography) is a completely safe, painless, and non-invasive examination that allows for the assessment of the bioelectrical brain activity of the youngest patients. In neonates and infants, the recording usually takes place during their natural sleep, which guarantees the highest quality of the tracing.
This examination is a key tool for the early detection of abnormalities, such as epileptic discharges, brain activity asymmetries, or post-stroke changes. It also allows for a precise assessment of central nervous system function following hypoxia.
- Purpose of the study: Diagnosis of epilepsy, seizures, developmental delays, and monitoring conditions after trauma, infections, or hypoxia.
- Comfort and safety: A special, soft cap with electrodes is placed on the child’s head. The pro-cedure does not require anesthesia and causes no side effects.
- Duration: The entire procedure usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes.
Indications for EEG diagnostics
When should the examination
be performed on a newborn?
An EEG exam is recommended in the diagnosis of several symptoms and clinical conditions, inclu-ding:
- Neonatal seizures,
- Suspicion of epilepsy,
- Perinatal hypoxia,
- Disorders of consciousness,
- Delays in psychomotor development,
- Congenital defects of the central nervous system.
Why choose an examination at NEURODIAGNOSTYKA?
Benefits and standards of
neonatal care
- Highest recording quality: We use professional automatic caps with built-in electrodes, which allows us to obtain a clean and stable signal – essential for a reliable diagnosis.
- Full technician control: Qualified personnel supervise the course of the examination in real-time, ensuring optimal recording conditions and the baby’s comfort.
- Child-friendly approach: We ensure a stress-free atmosphere. Parents always accompany the child, and the little one can be fed right after the cap is put on, making it easier to fall into a peaceful sleep.
- Video-EEG expansion capability: We offer simultaneous recording of video images and EEG tracings. This allows the doctor to precisely correlate unusual movements or behaviors of the child with brain activity.
Preparation for the Examination
A guide
for parents
A neonatal EEG does not require complicated preparations. It can take place at any time of the day, preferably during the child’s natural nap hours. We recommend that the baby be fed just before the actual examination (after the cap is already on), which encourages falling into a deep sleep.
EEG Results at NEURODIAGNOSTYKA
Quality assurance
and interpretation of results
Upon completion of the examination, you will receive a full recording of the brain’s bioelectrical ac-tivity along with a professional medical report.
- Expert analysis: Each recording is analyzed by an experienced specialist (pediatric neurolo-gist), ensuring the highest credibility of the diagnosis.
- Comprehensive documentation: The result includes both a textual description and graphical fragments of the EEG tracing, which are crucial for the attending physician when planning fur-ther treatment.
- Fast availability: We make sure that the waiting time for the report is as short as possible, un-derstanding how important rapid medical intervention is in the case of newborns.
